Hello to all parents and caregivers of the children in the Year 4/5/6 class. Hope you all had an enjoyable and safe holiday. We are looking forward to supporting and guiding your child with thier learning, as well as, encouraging them to be successful in all aspects of school life.
We will continue our safe practices by sanitising our hands and deep cleaning surfaces in the classrooms ans playground. We are maing sure we cough into our elbow and everyone in the slass sues thier own resources.
The Year 4/5/6 class are fortunate by having the shared guidance and expertise from Mrs McIlwain, Mrs Boney, Dawn McElhinney and Preston Connors.
We will all be providing knowledge , skills and support in a range of subject areas so each students can continue to progress in their academic learning and social development. In Year 4/5/6/ the children will participate in quality and enriching learning that fosters natural curiosity and encourages all children to work to the best of their ability. All learning activities are differentiated to suit your child's learning needs. This will assist to further deepen their knowledge and develop additional skills to assist with their continued progress. We encourage the children to work collaborativley, think creatively, use a range of technology and have many hands-on experiences to enhance their learning.
The school has embedded 'Positive Bahaviour for Learning' in the classroom and playground. The children will have their achievements recognised through positive feedback, assembly awards, Principal recognition, goal settingand many other reward incentives.
In Literacy, the children will participate in book studies. This will hlep develop their writing ability so they are able to successfully write a range of informative, persuasive and entertaining texts with visual representation included. The children , through explicit teaching and learning activities will further develop their knowledge and skills in reading, comprehension, communication, grammar, handwriting and new focus on spelling.
In Mathematics, the children will continually learn two new mathematical concepts and processes each week. This will be achieved through explicit teaching. The children will have the opportunity to apply these new skills and understanding to build upon their previous knowledge. An outline mathematical program is also used to help consolidate their learning. They will continue to work on their multiplication and division facats, mathematical language and mental computaions to broaden their knowledge and understanding at their ability level.
The children will participate and learn new thingsin the other subject areas of Science & Technology, Health and Physical activiyt, History and Geography and Creative arts, Hopefully extracurrucular activities and events will be permitted this year.
Homework is always provided at the beginning of each week and is to be returned on Friday. Please ask your child about their homework as it is an extension of their learning in the class. It provided the opportunity for your child to show you their understanding and skills being learned.
